Re-activating an old CB
« on: April 11, 2015, 12:15:48 AM »

I just purchased a used tourpac box to replace the stock razor box on my 05 SEEG.  The 'new' box is full size and has lights and speakers, which will make it nice.  It also has an old Harmon Kardon "hands free" Type BE7683, HD P/N 76222-06.  This unit mounts to the side of the tourpac, not piggybacked on the radio like in later years.  I had always wanted a CB on the bike and have a pretty good idea of how much work it will take to run the wires to the left  handgrip switch set. change out switches and all that stuff.

Here is what I know that I don't know.
1.  How do I get the unit checked out and repaired if necessary.
2.  Where do I get the wiring harness necessary to integrate it to the bike.
3.  Does that harness include connectors to driver and passenger plug in points.
4.  Where can I get the various bits and parts I will need to actually do this job
5.  And perhaps the biggest, what else do I need to know, What other questions should I be asking

I am looking forward to playing with this one, so your help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Wayne

Wayne, Jim (hd-dude) has answered these questions previously.....back when the 04 and 05 SEEGs were the most common CVO on the road.

Long story short, it's very expensive.  You'll have to start with a harness from an Ultra Classic.  It would be much cheaper for you to just buy a portable CB unit.  That way, you take it with you to your next bike.  There are several companies that make them but here's one from J&M....   http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=31

The P/N you have listed is showing "06" at the end and leads me to believe that part is compatible with the radios that came in '06 model year bikes. If I'm not mistaken I believe the radios changed (vendors) in '06 and it might not work with the head unit in your '05 SEEG.

Pretty sure you are correct d00d. Changed from Radio Sound to Harmon Kardon in '06.
