Sam lay on his death-bed, his wife Martha watching over him.

 

He whispered  "Martha, You've stuck with me all through the bad times.

 

When your father threatened me, you stood firm.

When I got fired, you were right there.

When my business failed, you were there.

When I got shot, by your cousin, you were by my side.

When we lost the house, you stayed with me.

When my health started failing, you were never far away...

 

You know what Martha?"

"What dear?" she gently asked, smiling as her heart almost burst with grief.

 

                Fading away he said:

 

 "I'm beginning to think you're bad luck."
