riding courses
« on: March 14, 2015, 09:45:52 AM »

I'm a brand new CVO owner. I came to the USA to buy my bike and am importing it to the holy land, Israel. I took a police riding course called ride it like a pro, but I do not feel like I got out of it what I hoped to. Are there any other DVDs that I can buy that will teach me the methods to riding a heavy bike in difficult circumstances? We have lots of narrow roads with sand covered areas so I would like to learn ideas of managing the road situations.

The Ride Like A Pro course is considered by many to be the best.  I never took the riding course but I've seen the video.  You may want to buy the DVD and practice on your own.

Hey Heb,
Not sure what you were expecting from your class. It is my opinion that although classes are very important in the safe operation of a motorcycle, all a class basically does is better equip you with the knowledge necessary to do so. There is no substitute for hands on riding experience which cannot be taught in a classroom or parking lot.
Enjoy your new scoot...

HH, Ride Like A Pro is a very good course.  Like they told you in the class, the key is to practice, practice, practice.

I've rode all my life (I'm 64) and thought there's really nothing new that I could learn but to support somebody else, I agreed to take the course.  I was surprised at what I'd learned.  I ended up taking that course several times over the last decade.

Don't know of any course or any video that's going to teach you to ride a big, heavy bike in those kind of conditions that you describe.

How many years have you been riding?  What size bike were you riding up until the CVO?

I have been riding about 40 years. Previous to the CVO, I had an Ultra Classic most recently.  I have retired it with 210,000 KM. Also have owned Street Rod, a KTM, and various Japanese motorcycles.
