Lowering a CVO Limited?
« on: March 13, 2015, 01:39:15 AM »

What are the best options these days for lowering a CVO Limited?  Has Legends improved the speed of their compressor on their air shocks?  What are the options for lowering the front?

Im installing the premuim ride lowering kit from HD in the front. Have the stock style low shocks for the back but havent made the final decision on installing them yet.

I have used Legend's older system, and remember them saying a couple of years ago they had increased the size of the air chamber to get a better ride.  I haven't tried this newer system, so can't say for sure, but would assume it takes longer to pump up if they haven't upgraded the compressor.

When I talked to the Legend reps at Sturgis in 2014, they insisted their system is only for lowering the bike while parked, not for adjusting the ride height.  While moving, the shocks are to be pumped up to full height, and adjustments are supposed to be minor and only for finding the best ride.

Do you want to lower it for looks, or for better footing?

While that is in fact true, they also know full well that many utilize the system to "look cool", including while cruising.  If they were to automate the system in such a way as to prevent lowering when in motion, their sales would plummet and they know it.

I had the occasion once a few years ago to watch one of the "cool" dudes tear up a nice custom fender when he forgot that riding with the rear end dragging the ground wasn't a great idea on normal surfaces that contain things like potholes and bumps.  "Cool" can quickly turn into "fool", if you know what I mean.

I am looking for better footing.  Probably go with the arnott alden.  They pump up much faster and are cheaper.

I had thought about lowering too. Hate to give up any ride quality though. I talked to my salesman where I bought mine and he said to have my seat reshaped. They have a shop they send them to and it costs about $150.
Reason also on lowering is, I had a 2001 Screaming Eagle Roadglide I bought used. The rear had the HD lowering shocks. It rode terrible. Luckily the guy gave me the stock rear shocks. I put them on and I was happy with ride. Hadn't thought about the air ones.
