CVO Limited Supporting two riders w/Heated Gear
« on: April 07, 2015, 09:57:47 AM »

Gerbing informed me that some bikes can't support a rider and passenger plugged in with heated gear to a bike battery.  Is this an issue on the CVO Limited?  Anyone out there have any experience plugging in two people on a long ride?

This question came up back in 04/05 (the SEEGs).  After a bit of research and communication with Gerbing directly it was determined that the Harleys don't have a problem and that's will full gear (XE jacket, XE pants, boot insoles, gloves).  I've not had a problem with anything in this area since then.  And the electrical systems on todays baggers have a much higher output than in 04/05.  You're good to go.  :2vrolijk_21:

I can speak for mine only (2010 Ultra), but with rider & passenger. gloves, jackets and pants. I run mine about a quarter the bsr runs hers about 75-100percent. and at idle it will pull the voltage gauge down pretty good. I usually dont turn mine on till I am at road speed and turn it off in town and tell her to wait till I am at road speed for her to turn hers on. I just dont like taxing the charging system at idle.

The charging system was upgraded for 2014 and later Touring CVO's to provide a claimed 30% improvement in output at idle, so that may help.  The same upgrade is available for earlier models.

Out of curiosity, are our R/R's shunt or series types?
