How much baffle material?
« on: April 09, 2015, 09:38:59 PM »

When I did the fullsac conversion with the 2.0 baffles I used one single layer of the baffle material on the outside of the screens. I had to cut down the amount of material from stock which would have been more than one layer had I used it all.
What did you guys do? Did you use it all? I think I'm a bit louder than some of the videos I've been watching because I didn't use all of the material. But the bikes runs like a raped ape so no complaints there. But there is a little competition for the stereo now which I didn't expect with the 2.0 size.

I did 2" cores only and still have the stock headpipe. Only used 1/2 the stock wrap that was in the stock cans. Has just enough rumble now that I can hear the bike and retain my hearing. Had D&D on the last pipe. Great pipe but wearing earplugs gets to be a pain after a while.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get all the concerns and complaints about exhaust drowning out the stereo.

I've run Fullsac 2.0 baffles, and now run 4" Rineharts with their 2.25" baffles, and the the predominant sound at speed is the wind noise, never the exhaust.

With the rear exiting pipes all the sound is behind you, plus at highway speeds it seems pretty mellow- kinda just like background sound.

I've got a good shield now, but when I didn't, the wind was what would drown out the stereo. I don't know, but I seem to be in the minority on this for some reason.

To the OP, I believe the one full wrap that you did is what is recommended. I suppose you could add more to mellow/deepen the sound, or maybe the 1.75" baffle would be more to your liking.

I used just enough to slightly overlap the first wrap to help hold everthing together while slipping the baffles back into the cans. I used the screens and flexed them slighty inside of themselves until fully inserted then when I let go the spring pressure popped them out against the cans holding the material against the outside.

Thanks! Yep, sounds like I did the install as you guys did. I love the sound for sure. I do like to get out on the road a run down some miles but I've mainly been in town since the install 2 weeks ago. I have had the chance to run at 60 mph so I have a fair idea what the wind will be like with the stereo and new pipes. I just notice I am running the stereo quite loud in order to hear it and I've got the new BOOM system. No worries. Just checking to see what yall had done for packing. I may try one more layer of packing but I wont be changing baffles and the sound level is not even close to being too loud that I will even consider taking it back apart this year. Time to ride and enjoy the new found power of the DX pipe and baffles.  :2vrolijk_21:

All the packing went back in when I went with the 2" cores. It was a tight squeeze but it's all in there, screens overlapped a little bit more than if only 1 layer. Can't say with any certainty how much difference in sound it makes with all of it versus 1 wrap but I am pleased with it.

I'm running the 2'' baffle with no packing. Sounds good to me.

I'm guessing the Fullsac 2.25" baffles without the packing would probably sound identical to 4" Rineharts, which also don't have packing. They both have the same baffle size and design. Actually, I never heard of anyone adding packing/screens to the Rineharts. I'm sure it wouldn't affect performance, and it would probably take a bit of an edge off and make it sound even deeper.

Just did mine. 2.25" and split the insulation in half. Had to use each half from one muffler for both sides since HD decided to do such a shoddy job of packing one side!

This is what the left insulation looked like when I pulled out the core.

Haven't had it out on the highway yet but liking the sound at idle.

First day out riding with the Fullsac rig. Loved it. The extra power is much appreciated. Nice deep Harley sound without being obnoxious. Put on about 300 miles today just tooling around the general area of my state. Got the Klock Werks Ergo Up&Back bars on as well. I don't think I need to do anything else to this bike now until something stops working properly!  :2vrolijk_21:
