Go-Pro SDXC Cards?
« on: May 06, 2015, 11:31:04 AM »

Hello all...

I'm getting my two Go Pros around for Sturgis this year.  I've had an older Hero since new, not the Hero 2, just the original plain Hero.  It can use a 32g SD card and I have a couple.

I have a Go Pro 3+ Black that I bought new last year and have one 64g SD Micro.

In the past they say to use the highest class of card you can get, like a Class 10.  I have a couple older Class 4 32g's and they seem to work okay in the older Hero.

What is the new standard?

I see that Best Buy has these on sale today for $34.99 ea.

SanDisk - Extreme PLUS 64GB Micro SDXC UHS-3 Class U-3 Memory Card - Red/Gold

Does the Red/Gold have anything to do with the quality or speed of the card?

I guess my question is this, what is the harm of using a "slower" lower class card over a high Class 10 card?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Have a great day all...

Can't anyone that's been doing Go Pro videoing for a few years give me some pointers on the correct, or usable SD class card to use?

Can you tell me what works and what doesn't work, and possibly what happens if you use too low of a class card?

Thanks.

To quote the Manual "The Hero3 camera is compatible with 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacity microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC memory cards. While all speed class ratings are compatible, GoPro requires using an SD card with Speed Class Rating 10 or higher speed when recording in Protune mode, or when using the 0.5 Time Lapse setting. GoPro recommends using brand name memory cards for maximum reliability in high-vibration activities."  Does that help?

Thanks.  I was just wondering what guys here had good luck with and if there were any tips on getting quality recording times etc.

The manual was going to be my next look see this weekend.

I have a couple C-10 cards, but a couple are C-4 or C-6.  I guess if I'm not doing anything fancy what I have will work.  You can only use so many cards and then they're just extra bits laying around on the desk.

Thanks again.
