H-D part# 51076 seat pad works great, your behind will not sweat or itch. 940 miles in one day.

+2  this is what I use when we're on an extended road trip. I like it because it lets the air circulate to prevent discomfort during those long days in the saddle when I'm covering 700-800 miles and it doesn't add to much to the seat height - cause I'm inseam challenged.  ;D

My wife prefers the ProPad gel pad on her portion of the seat, but she also prefers NOT to do more than 300 miles per day.

I've heard good things about those. Just hate things that go on the outside of the seat. Can be stolen if you're in a hurry and don't secure it.

I know what you mean.  I don't usually worry about it to much unless the bike is going to be out of our site for an extended period then the seat pads get put in the tourpak. And that is usually at a large event or when parking it overnight.
One way to look at is I'll be pizzzed off if the pad get "borrowed" but the good Lord will get even with the schmuck who does the "borrowing".

Glad it worked for you. I hated it. No air, little air, didn't matter. I had memory foam installed in my seat I'm doing 650 mile days and way more comfy then I ever was with that rubber whoopy cushion.

Rubber side down.

Jesse
"rubber whoopy cushion"   :huepfenlol2:  is sad but true.  And I don't like that it jacks up seat height, moves around when mounting, holds rain water, and is an easy target for thieves.  But the increase in riding range and comfort has outweighed the negatives.  Still...

Does the memory foam come in different densities?  If it does, did you use low, medium, or high density?

I looked at the pictures of that cushion, but couldn't tell the details of construction.  Is it solid, gel,  wire mesh, or what?

Brother if I had that benefit I would let these others slide believe me. It worked out great though. Got it from J&P cycles at Sturgis '13 with a money back guarantee in 30 days and we live in Iowa so I tried it on the 650 miles journey, hated it, got to take a nice 3 hour ride to Anamosa to return it. Was a win win really.

As far as the memory foam density I am not sure. I do know they do a double memory foam mod for the round in the belly crowd  :P I went through mean city cyles in Boone, NC. Give em a call the receptionist is a hoot with tons of southern charm!

The HD cushion is made up of a thin gel pad covered on top with what appears and feels like a nylon mesh material to allow air to circulate between you and the gel, the bottom of the pad is covered with a "grippy" vinyl so it will stay in place while your riding. All together it's only about 3/16" - 1/4" thick when your not sitting on it.

Jesse,

Always happy to talk to southern belles, so it's another win-win.  Will check it out.  Thanks for that.

phato1,

Thanks for the pics and description.  Much clearer now.  Will try one at the dealer.

It was hard to decide what various different foams and thickness of each. Online links say the DIY guy usually gets it right the 3rd time.
I settled on 1" Sunman medium firm, 1" Medium Firm topped off with 1/2" of their Pudgee foam. I played with sample and didn't  want my butt to bottom out. Hopefully not too hard.

Well, it's harder than I thought. Should have let a seat shop do it. 120 bucks on quality foam but my carving quality is not there. Will have a seamstress modify the vynal. Won't know how it Rides until it stops raining.  California needs it. I will Ride for 100 miles before getting vynal done.
