Slipper Clutch and Fluids after break in..
« on: March 31, 2015, 11:55:29 AM »

Breaking in my 2014 Limited CVO with new clutch. Came with Syn 3 and I usually put Formula+ in the primary of regular clutches.

Is Syn 3 requiring for any reason or anybody find something they really like there?

Also engine I like M1 20/50 or the 15/50 and go M1 75/90 or 75/140 in tranny. Not against Syn3 just find M1 to be more specific and same or cheaper in price.

I asked the dealer about Syn 3 for the clutches and they recommended formula 1 for the clutches.

i've been using shell rotella-t in my primary.  easily available and runs about $13 for a gallon jug.  its also jaso rated for wet clutch use.

While at the dealer I looked at the tag and it says syn1 in all the areas including clutch.  The service department didn't really agree.

I wouldn't use Syn 3.  Formula + is better.

I've been using RedLine products. Primary http://www.redline oil.com/product.aspx?pid=120&pcid=13
and  for transmission http://www.redline oil.com/product.aspx?pid=119&pcid=13 no issues.

Bel Ray V twin primary lube works extremely well in clutch's and will work with larger TQ builds

Do not forget that the comp still needs lube as well and ATF is not a good lube for a high pressure point item like the comp.  Something to keep in mind.

Trick Shift was great in the old style compensators. I used it in 4 different bikes for 20 years. Not so good for the new comp's. Redline V-Twin primary case oil seems to work good in the newer models.

Why.............................does anyone still use Syn 3 in anything other than possibly the Primary case.  In no way whatsoever.....in my opinion is it sufficient to properly lube the transmission and I don't like it for the engine either.  Now I'm seeing posts where the tech staff at Harley dealers don't recomment it either.

:-\ Of course there are many, many riders that don't subscribe to forums like this one and others that have pretty much decided against using that crap.  Somehow,  it seems to be still out there.  In no way is the stuff designed to handle the variance in lubrication needs between and amongst the trans/primary /engine with one lube. :confused5:

Right on.
These are the fluids we've used in our clients bikes, now for almost 2 decades now.
