09 Ultra Classic HK radio problem
« on: May 16, 2015, 10:51:05 PM »

I've got an 09 Ultra Classic with Hawg Wired amp PCS3004 that runs the front batwing speakers and speakers in lowers, radio amp runs speakers in the tour pack. When riding the sound will just stop coming out of speakers if I shut the radio off and back on it will work for a few minutes. Sound will come through headset. I cannot duplicate when sitting in garage on accessory. Anybody else have this problem or suggestions on how to better diagnose what the problem is. I've turned the AVC off, bass and treble down, checked all connections and grounds, everything appears to be ok.

Ditto... these types of problems, along with a whole slew of others are VERY common with the POS HKs... Iron Cross fixes them all and does some preventative stuff too.

If you send it to them, I recommend getting them to add the Aux hook-up from the rear, relatively inexpensive and makes life quite a bit easier!

Does anyone know if the replacement of the riser bolts that supposedly cause a lot of the problems are covered by the ESP?

I would think so. the  damage is already done so just replace your bolts with the modified ones when you remove the radio for repair.unless you think esp will cover all parts and labor and they may. I have had very good luck with the esp. ;D :2vrolijk_21:

Harley covered the expense  4 or 5 years ago, so maybe they will still cover it, if not the ESP should. Since the HU already exhibits the problems of cutting in and out, then your best option is ICA like suggested and then get the dealer to give you the two bolts and you can put them in while your radio is out being repaired.

I had the same symptoms and sent my head unit into ICA for repairs. When they returned it I found a very good explanation of what they repaired and the cause; and they were kind enough to throw in those two new riser bolts! I've not had any more problems with the HK head unit cutting out since ICA repaired it.
