Question about stock clutch on 2013 CVO Road King
« on: March 05, 2016, 03:42:39 PM »

When I had a dyno tune about a month ago, my clutch was slipping at peak torque. It was very slight, the tuner said I probably won't feel it on the street. However, I'm just OCD about these things and would rather just take care of it now.

My question is, is the stock clutch on a CVO an actual "upgraded" Screamin Eagle clutch, or just something basic they would put on the standard Harleys? I hear great things about the Barnett clutch. Should I go that route, anything else you'd recommend? Thanks!

As far as I know there is nothing different about the CVO clutch. The first upgrade could be a heavier clutch spring, but you will probably never run your bike on the street like it was run on the dyno.

the important thing is that having a clutch spring that is really strong - will just kill you left hand. the ideal is a clutch spring that is just barely tight enough to hold the clutch. any more is just self torture.

The 2013 CVO clutch is the first year for the Slip and Assist clutch, and it is only on CVO bikes for 13.  In 14 all bikes with Hydraulic clutch come with the Slip and Assist clutch.

Depends on which Screamin Eagle catalog you look at its good for ~115 torque or its good for 135 torque.

I have a post in this section asking about the clutch.  They seem to hold at least 125.

I'm looking at the AIM VP-SDR  they heavy duty on is rated for 155 torque.

I seem to remember several comments from people who do tuning that they saw similar issues with slippage on the dyno with the new A&S clutch back in 2013.  One in particular mentioned just replacing the unit with a Barnett, problem solved and an all-around better clutch.  I'm not sure if things have changed on the most recent models, but a query directed at one of the Steve's (GMR, Fullsac) or one of the other tuners might be a good idea.
