Installing a Bustec Hitch Question
« on: June 02, 2015, 09:16:53 AM »

I have a 2012 CVO Electra glide Ultra, , question is , were any of you able to install the hitch without removing the chrome pieces from the fender over the top bolts?? with the spacers used to mount the hitch it doesn't seem to want to go back on and with all the research I did,  this was never mentioned as  far as I could find.  thanks for your help.   I talked to Bushtec twice to make sure I had the proper hitch and they didn't say anything about it either.   any help is much appreciated. :)   Thanks

JC is right, Chains is the go to guy for Bushtec info.
But,
I have 4 bikes in the garage with Bushtec hitches on them so I went and looked at one of them that should be the same as your bike, my 2011.5 SEUC. Chrome piece is there. I'm thinking I had two different size spacers to make it work but it did.

Also looked at the 2012 SERGC, the chrome parts are black but they are still there.
Hope this helps.

I also have a 2012 cuse7.  My Bushtec hitch is installed with the chrome cover in place.  The spacers are different sizes and the thicker spacer is used on the bolt/hole toward the rear of the bike and a smaller spacer in the front bolt/hole.  I recall that on my hitch there are actually three holes to mount it but the chrome cover does not have an opening for the front hole.  A friend who has a 2010 cuse5 actually drilled a hole in his chrome cover to allow the use of this third bolt/hole.  But it is not necessary or even advisable imo.  There is yet a third spacer for when this bolt/hole is used.  It is most likely the thinnest of the spacers but I can't locate my extra hardware to confirm that.

Thanks :)  going to take another look at the spacers.  BTW your post about the hitch was one of the main reasons for going with the Bushtec .  Thanks for that also .

I just bought a 2009 with a Bushtec hitch on it.  It was installed at a Harley dealer in Moore Oklahoma for the previous owner.  Chrome covers are off and will not go back on, I have them on the shelf to try to fit when I have time to mess with it. May need to get a bushing kit from Bushtec. I think the dealer tech took the easy way out or didn't understand how to install with the covers so he left them off.

I do not believe the hitch mounting was designed to leave covers off.

ok,  Just talked to Bushtec,  the struts of the hitch are installed with the chrome pieces in place, and you only use two of the three bolts, and of course two of the spacers on each side.   Thanks for all the help.  I'll post here to let you know how it goes. :)
