2007 FXSTSSE Mufflers
« on: June 17, 2015, 05:28:30 PM »

I now have another question about my 2007 fxstsse.  I noticed that there is 2 screws in the mufflers that appear to hold the baffles.  Can you remove the baffles? And next has anyone ever modified the baffles?

Odds are those aren't the stock mufflers, or someone has cut out the stock baffles and drilled holes for screws to retain replacement baffles.  Stock mufflers have come with welded baffles for a long time.

Actually on the 2007 and 2008 FXSTSSE and FXSTSSE2  the baffles are removeable.

I read a thread a coupla years ago about exactly that

An exhaust builder was making a replacement "slip in" muffler for the stock muffler cans

These of course are not "tapered" but slash-down in appearance

Anto tamper screws from memory

Hmmmm.  This is one of those times when the parts catalog misled me.  It shows the traditional tapered mufflers for both years, but after your post I dug a little deeper and found some actual photo's of those part numbers and sure enough you're correct.  They are a slash down style with a screw retaining the cores.  I'm rather surprised, since Harley had been installing only tamper proof mufflers with welded in cores for a long time. :confused5:

Yes , the mufflers were/are model unique

There was a similar looking "slashdown" Softail muffler on a later model , maybe a CVO Heritage ?

Also the 2013 CVO Breakout came with slash down mufflers , and I do believe that maybe Fullsac do a slip in replacement baffle for that muffler.
