On the "Blue" 2015 RGU, which blue is which?
« on: July 08, 2015, 12:53:19 PM »

If you get on the HD website, it looks like the Abyss Blue is the lighter color and the Crushed Sapphire is the darker one, but I'm wondering if that's true.  I mean, we all know the abyss is a dark place deep in the ocean and sapphires can be bright blue, so I'm curious.  Anybody out there have the official story?

Are you kidding?    :nixweiss:    Sorry, I could not resist!     :huepfenlol2:     I don't know of an "official story" other than the website itself. Clearly, however, "Abyss" refers to the darker of the two blues. HD has always been very clever in naming its colors.  It is all marketing, after all

The reason I said that is because the HD website kinda makes it look that way, because they seem to say the "top" or main body color first and the stripe/accent color second, like the Autumn Sunset and the Typhoon Maroon seem to clearly be the strip colors on the other two models and not the main body colors.  See this link:  http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Motorcycles/cvo-road-glide-ultra.html#!pnw  and pay special attention to the color chits and the order the colors are mentioned.  And by the way, I appreciate you taking the time to show us a Behr color chart, but that's house paint and like you say, who knows how clever HD is trying to be! ;)

Hey, there ain't much activity on the forum this morning so I was trying to stir it up a little, ya know?  Generate some interest or somethin!  Heck it's raining here and not much fun so I posted something a little different!   :P
I know it isn't a huge deal, but I'd kinda like to know which is which for sure...wouldn't you?

It must be raining hard back there.   ;)   Are you going to believe the HD website or your own lying eyes?  You are correct about how it may appear in those three examples but I don't think you can extrapolate from that small statistical sample.  You could call HD customer service.    :nervous:    All I could find:

Sapphire blue:

Abyss blue:

If you look at a 2014 CVO Breakout with Candy Cobalt and Molten Silver with Abyss Blue Graphics, you will find that Abyss Blue is darned near black under some lighting conditions.  So yes, the Abyss Blue is the darker of the two colors on the 2015 SERG.

Look at a 13 CVO King, the Crushed Sapphire blue one.  You will see it i very close if not the exact same color as the lighter color on our Blue 15's
