I'm still using the original 9V battery with my PC.  Any mods are made to the copy of the map on the computer, then hook up the 9V battery just long enough to download the modified map or tweak the start fuel setting.  I've played around with it a lot in the past year, so I figure if the battery has lasted this long for me, most folks won't have an issue.

Chief,
B careful,  the battery adapter send 9Vdc to the unit,  if you plug the battery tender to it you're sending 14+Vdc to it...........be careful not to blo the PC's supply circuit,   you are way better to connect a 9Vdc battery than doing the way you are.......Just a thought.

Beagle,

Not to worry. I called Dynojet and asked them if that would be OK. They said no problem. The PC regulates the power.
