Dilemma - Help please
« on: July 28, 2015, 02:19:21 PM »

All those who know.

Which is best?, ideally from experience of one or the other, is it as good to fit AV&V guides or K-Line guide inserts or is one not as longer lasting as the other. Do either actually solve oil usage problem for a good mileage, that is if the problem is the valve guides in the first place. Or, am I chasing fools gold (which will not be the first time (not associated with Harley's though, despite all my bellyaching there is still nothing like them)).

The AV&V guides with the o-ring below the shoulder, and their ribbed/one-way machined seal diameter are just about THE BEST your going to find.
Look no further.

if your guides are worn, replace them with the AV&V guides (AV&V seals too),you do understand that seats will also have to be cut.

Hillsyde and prodrag

Thank you for your advice. Yes I do realise I need to have the seats re-cut.

As Kirby mentioned, the seats always need to be re-cut after any guide has been removed/replaced.
HD's tooling/fixturing/method blasts the guide hole in the cast iron bar stock that has been pressed in the head at the same time the seat is cut, with the same cutter, similar to a large step-drill/counter-bore, and whether or not the guide ID is concentric with the guide OD, apparantly makes no difference to them.
Many times we've witnessed that even by eye, as well as being measured.
And always remember, sharing, is caring............... :D
