Street Glide CVO shocks adequate?
« on: January 13, 2016, 11:46:53 PM »

Just picked up a new CVO in black. I was wondering if that single adjustable shock is any good or should I move my progressive 944's from my 2012 to the new bike? I think they will fit? Thanks in advance.

Picking a suspension is probably like picking a seat. It depends on weight of rider and riding style. I'm sure there are many H-D riders with stock suspension and they are totally happy but I have found that you don't realize how bad stock suspension is until you replace it with a better setup especially if you and your passenger are heavy or you push the performance limits of a stock setup.
I haven't ridden a new CVO in a few years so can't speak for the new stock setups though. On the older bikes I would suggest changing not only shocks but front suspension at the same time to get maximum improvement.

I put progressive 944 on my 09 SERG as it came with 12" air shocks which sucked.

My 12 SERG came with the 12" hand adjustable shocks that are on your CVO street glide.  I was going to put the 944 on it, but the factory shocks were about the same or slightly better.

That said, I have Ohlin on my 15 SERGU because it came with Air shock that sucked.  The Ohlins are the best shock I have ever had on any harley!

Thanks for the reply Dave. Just seams weird to have one shock really doing all the work. I will ride it for awhile. But also look at the Ohlins.

Highly recommend that you consider Legend Revo rear shocks and the new AXEO front suspension kit. American made, adjustable to your weight, easy installation and Lifetime warranty. I continue to be amazed at my bikes improvement. Much smoother and better handling. It's like a different motorcycle. If you have any questions PM me. I consider this upgrade to be the best modification I have ever made to a bike.

I felt the shocks on my 12 street glide were too stiff for me. Seemed I just couldn't get the ride I liked. Tried adjusting many times, loaded  with wife and trip gear did seem better. But I'm a fan of the air shocks,  a couple extra lbs when loaded but for the most part 35 -40 lbs has been a good setting for me.
