Flat exhaust gaskets
« on: September 28, 2015, 02:57:55 PM »

I ordered some new exhaust gaskets in preparation to dropping my front header and the picture was not what I ordered, but they still say that are for my bike.  I have seen this kinda before, but I have never used them.  Anyone here has experience with the flat aluminium exhaust gaskets?  I installed one on my front pipe and so far, nothing I can do will get them to seal.  I have an exhaust leak on the front cylinder now.  I tried washers to get me more threads to tighten with, but to no avail.
  Any ideas?

Is your exhaust flat on the end or tapered. If its flat go to the dealership and get flat carbon ones if they are tapered then get the tapered ones

If I understand how that Fullsac True Dual Conversion thing works, you still have the stock pipe connecting to the front cylinder exhaust port.  I would suggest that the wisest course of action would be to go by a dealership and get a set of the standard tapered gaskets that came stock.  Those thin flat gaskets usually result in leaks unless you have a pipe with a formed end designed to work with them.  I've never had good luck with the Screamin' Eagle flat gaskets on stock style pipes so I no longer even try them; I have seen posts that indicated some guys use the Cometic version with some success.

I did get it to seal...I read that sometimes they recommend two gaskets...so I tried that and the problem is solved.  It's because the lip of the pipe that the hold down bracket uses ends up bottoming out on the actual cylinder...adding a second one gives you clearance...all is well now..
Thanks
