Opinions requested - Add on amp.
« on: September 05, 2015, 11:28:07 AM »

I'm looking for advise/opinions on adding an after market amp. I have all the speakers I want but when I'm riding the only sound I seem to get is from the tweeter bar.
I have a Sony head unit (from Biketronics), my fairing and lower fairing speakers are JBL's, and I have the inner fairing tweeter bar. I usually don't run with the tour pak and do not have lid speakers so I have no rear speakers. I would like to place the amp inside the batwing.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check out the new Arc 600 series amp. I just installed 2 yesterday to replace the Arc 125's I had that my guy talked me into when I had him install a radar detector and I was amazed the difference. Crazy clean sound. I figured it would be worth it because mu guy said If I couldn't tell enough of a difference to make it worth the money he would go back to the entire other set p and not charge me a dime which would have cost him a ton of labor but he knows his stuff and knew once I herd it I would never not go with it. Not cheap at $600 per but if you can get your head around the money, they do work fantastic. Even made a huge difference on how long (fast) I could still her the saddlebag speakers. I won't say it bec cause no one will believe me. I wouldn't have either

I'd be concerned that a high-power amp will blow out the tweeter bar. Do you know what its power rating and impedance are? For amps you will probably need a four channel amp. I say this because I'm assuming the JBL's are of the 2 ohm variety and you would not want to bridge them nor run them in series. The Biketronics BT4180 amp would be an option. Also Rockford Fosgate makes a good 4 channel amp, T400x4ad that would sound nice with your speakers. There are less expensive Class D 4 channel amps from Cerwin Vega, Soundstream, etc; but recognizing with a Class D amp you will most likely lose FM reception.
