Is the Fatboy Low a 103 with 110 kit?
« on: October 02, 2015, 06:44:13 PM »

A friend has been told by a dealer the new Fatboy Low is a 110 kit.

Barrels pistons and heads. Nothing else. The kit actually cost $2500 to buy.

If this is true the $2500 difference with the Fatty Low S is a fair price.

;D  Told that by a "dealer", huh.  I assume you meant by some salesman or other professional BS artist at a dealership.

First, Harley doesn't offer a Fatboy Low S version.  They offer a Softail Slim S and a Fatboy S, and they aren't 103's that the factory modified with a kit after the fact.  It was built as a SE 110B from the beginning.  If your friend was actually talking about a Fatboy Low with a 110 engine, then the dealership would have had to add a 110 kit to a FB Low (103) themselves to make their own local "S" version.  It's not from the factory.

Thank for the reply Jerry. It was a HD salesman and I don't know his credentials.

To clarify he was talking about the Fatboy S (my bad).

So we can confirm that information is wrong…?

Perhaps the salesman was trying to explain the difference between a regular Fatboy and the S version and didn't do a very good job of it.  There is more to it than just changing the cylinders, pistons and heads (he forgot about the cams, the cam bearings, the lifters, machining the cases, etc.), and while someone can duplicate the SE110 with that kit plus some machine work, that's not how the factory does it.  If he was trying to explain that a SE110 was based on the standard TC103 bottom end but used larger bores and pistons plus different cylinder heads and cams, then that would have been a more accurate way to describe it.  And btw, while they call it a SE110, it's the same engine that's in a CVO Softail model.

Sorry about the smart azzed reply, but I get fired up when dealership personnel either don't know what they're talking about, or they just mislead people.  If I read the situation wrong, I apologize.
