Bandaid Repairs and Clean up Now
« on: December 08, 2015, 08:08:13 AM »

my poor oh man cave needs to be torn down and rebuilt but that ain't happening in the trailer park!
been needing to replace the vinyl where the hot rods got parked but since I'm careless the bike now gets the whole garage

And when I put the kick stand down the other day and the bike kept going, thru the vinyl I knew it was time to rip and have a look!

the whole detached garage needs about 14 piers put in
but for now

That looks like a serious crack!   Did you do anything to stop the problem or is that down the road?

Bromebe,

Just watched a show Sunday night on sink holes, may want to tie a rope around the wheel just in case.

that crack, almost 2" wide at some spots goes all the way across and back, like a big "X"
it's going to be a "down the road" real fix,
we had 44 piers done on the house about 2 years ago, along with all of the plumbing under the house and that was a real mess, the work I had to do myself was a real night mare with landscaping, decking, and they could only get to it a week before Christmas!
and that included 6 piers that had to be put inside the center of the house!
I lost my Grandfathers Gold pocket watch on that bit, had it in a display jar in the back bedroom
and there was no one going to fess up to it,
I cried like a cried like a big baby over that loss, it was handed down to me when my dad passed

so, I hate foundation crews!
so, it's a fix and go!

go clean the bike now from all the dust doing the garage

now where to start? oh yes, the Frig!

Kind of reminds one of the Vette Museum in Bowling Green where the whole center of the building fell in a sinkhole one night along with several pricey privately owned Vette's.  Don't think anyone would have believed it but security cameras captured the whole thing.  BTW really pretty Road King in the pics.

I've got an aunt and uncle that live in San Antonio.  They've lived in their home for over 30 years.  But this past summer, the foundation on one end of the house started to sink.  They had 20 some piers installed.  Quite a project.  As part of the fix they have a "Master" located just inside the front door.  Thru some type of wi fi driven system, the "Master" monitors the position of various points of the foundation at a dozen or so locations.  If the foundations starts to move again, an alarm will tell them which position has moved, and how much it has moved.  I had no idea this was an issue in that part of Texas, but apparently it's fairly common.  Even though my uncle had insurance specifically for this problem, the insurance company fought him on paying for the repairs, claiming a plumbing leak caused the problem.  There was no plumbing anywhere near the end of the house that started to sink.  No one from the insurance company ever came to the house and inspected anything. Apparently insurance companies automatically claim a plumbing leak and go from there (according to a county building inspector).   A state appointed "arbitrator" ruled in my uncle's favor...  Eighty something year old with Parkinson's and the insurance fights him on paying the bill, after years of paying premiums for the specific problem...  Fortunate for him the state stepped in...

Went thru the insurance process for about 2 years and got no where
Same thing with water!
So we just paid out of pocket
$15,000 for the 44 piers and plumbing
Then it was another $35,000 for the remodeling and that did not include bedrooms or back bathroom

So the detached man cave is at the bottom of the list for home repairs

Down here back when the house was built, set a form, fill with sand and pore a slab all in two weeks!
