Beard Trimmers------Beware of Wahl's new Lithium Trimmer
« on: November 30, 2015, 06:35:56 PM »

 >:(

OK,

I went to Costco in October and bought a new Wahl beard trimmer (lithium model).  Brought it home and charged it up and tried it out the next day.  Trimmer worked OK,  but after changing heads, (has multiple heads, etc.),  and using it for maybe 5-6 minutes,  it would not shut off.   They supply a little red plastic button to insert in the base (where the charger plugs in).........the red button is supposed to be used while "traveling" to ensure it doesn't start up accidentally.

Well,  that red button is the ONLY way I could shut down the device.  Matter of fact,  the next time I used it, the red button would not even stop the motor.   I had to just let it "run down" out of battery power on its own.

Sent it back for replacement/warranty service.  After 23 days,  they sent me a brand new unit (stainless steel model) actually an upgrade from what I purchased.

Sadly,  same results.   Charged it up,  used it the next day and it would NOT shut off.   Used the red button to stop it and tried to see if it would shut down after an hour or so..........Not so.   Tried it again after 4-5 hours.........same results.

Amazingly,  the next day...........I tried it by pulling out the red button and oooooooooops,  the damn thing did shut off.

So I used it as before and low and behold after 5-6 minutes of usage it did in fact shut down via the switch as it should have.

So, now I'm not sure how reliable it may or (may not) be and have tried to contact customer service and finally had to hang up after over 15 minutes on "hold".   I will be contacting them again tomorrow or Wed. as to what is next,  they clearly have a switch problem.........with their new Lithium trimmers. :nixweiss:

I have one, you are right about the switch. Mine hasn't been as bad as you described but it is a very sensitive switch, comes on fine but takes some fiddling to turn it off.

Thanks for the info.  Perfect timing going to purchase one today or tomorrow.  I will continue with older model that I have. Steve.

Fellow Brothers of the beard!

very odd, that I have a traumatic experience with my trimmer this morning!
and thought it was worthy of a mention then see your post!

up every morning at 4:45
Sh.., shine, shower and shave
trimmer stays on that 6 setting all the time,
not this morning, somehow got pushed back to "1" setting
to late to stop! mmm! mmm!
going to take a while to fix that screw up!

Update......

Finally got thru to Wahls this morning.  Rep admitted that they did have a problem with switches but it was now corrected and supposedly,  my problem is the first in a while.. :confused5:

Anyway,  they are sending me another "new" one that they are going to take out of the box and test (again) to be sure it turns on/off OK.  Also sending me a shipping label so I can send back the one I have now.  So,  all should be well once I get the new one...........by the way,  I told them that the newest one did in fact seem to turn off/on OK as of the last two times I tried it.  She said to send it back anyway as it would fail again sooner or later as did others. :drink:

UPDATE #2

"...........by the way,  I told them that the newest one did in fact seem to turn off/on OK as of the last two times I tried it.  She said to send it back anyway as it would fail again sooner or later as did others. :drink: "

:-\ She was correct..........this second trimmer did indeed fail again.  This time,  I used it for a little less than 5 minutes I think and turned it off OK and put it in the stand it comes with.  About 5 minutes later,  we weren't even in the bathroom,  and about to leave the house and the damn thing started up on its own.  We heard it running, so I went in and used the red plug to stop it again.

So,  as of Friday they finally shipped to me unit #3 (which I have charged up),  but have not yet used.  Putting unit #2 in the mail back to them today.

Jury is out on whether the newest (#3) will work OK or not......................We shall see. :nixweiss:
