FXSTSSE2 Dunlop American Elite
« on: December 11, 2015, 05:34:36 AM »

Just had a 200/55 70 VR17 American Elite fitted to the rear of my 2008 FXSTSSE2 CVO Springer

That's here in Perth Western Australia. I picked this tyre on recommendation from this forum.

$325 Australian dollars , balanced and fitted ( that's $222.40 USD !)

What do they cost "over there " ?

I'll get the front done next week , I'll take off the current wheel/tyre as I don't want a shop "FIDDLING" with the Springer front end !

I'll truck the loose wheel into the shop and reassemble myself , following the manual to the letter.

Too many nuts/bolts/brackets they have little experience on for my liking. Plus all have to be torqued in sequence , loctited etc etc

I paid about the same for mine. I dig your bike, you have good taste. Ha ha The front was more expensive though...

Thanks for the reply mate , appreciated.

I was hopeful the front would be less expensive , I suppose I'll find out next week !

Your colour , the 105th Anniversary CVO Springer was not sold outside of the US ( The Diamond Black and the Inferno Orange were exported )

So we got those two colours ( sorry "colors" haha) but the bikes were VERY expensive new here at the time , $58K Australian

My own bike came out of Texas as a used bike some 3 years ago , and a good friend of mine here in Perth Western Australia , having seen and LOVED my bike bought an Anniversary colour one sight unseen from an HD dealer in North Carolina and had it shipped to Australia. His was also nice and clean.

I really like his anniversary colour now . as well as my own.

I think the next time I am down under I'm going to have to ride a bike. I can only imagine how nice that would be. Of course It has to be a little sketchy will all the animals... I mean even regular cars have huge Roo bars.
But I bet the ride from Hobart to Bay of Fires would be amazing. One of my favorite trips!

Yes , Tasmania , the "Appalachians" of Australia maybe. ( Including the "Deliverance" type hillbillies rumour has it ! Cue duelling banjos !)

I've only been once , in 2001 and drove a hire car around , not alas any motorcycle.

Two good friends of mine flew there from Perth WA ( like flying across the states !) and hired BMW trail types and rode around the Island for 2 weeks

They had a ball , rode in snow , VERY rare at home here in WA !

I did Taz in 2005 and The east coast of Australia in 1995... loved it both times. And yeah I noticed Mainland Aussies and Taz Aussies don't show each other brotherly love. ha ha
I skiied Blue Cow which had good snow that year. Also happened to be my last ski trip because I tried snowboarding for the first time, never looked back.

Are those mounted on the front of the car in case you hit a Roo crossing the road? As in Kangaroo?

Yes indeedy it does. The freeway near my home in Perth Western Australia is "inner metro" and there are prominent Kangaroo warning signs within 2 kilometres of my house.

Personally when out of town I find Emus more of a drama , as they're THICK compared to a 'Roo !

Got that front tyre done , finished the job yesterday.

As I mentioned I took the wheel out myself and took the loose wheel into the tyre shop

The tyre fitted was a 130/70R18 63H ELITE 111 Front Radial.

Australian $ 255 fitted to the loose wheel and balanced ( @$177 USD at current exchange rates)

The front is not an "American Elite 3" , which does not come in a radial that size , only a Bias ply

Although it is " Made in America" so go figure ?

Carefully refitted with a new set of Lyndall Racing Gold front pads so all should be hunky dorey for 12,000 K's or more !

First ride it felt well "squirmy" and also "heavy" at the same time.

After 55 K's it felt better but not quite 100 % confidence inspiring. That may take 200 K's apparently.
