SE Cam Plate and oil pump VS 2012 Stock
« on: January 21, 2016, 10:20:54 PM »

Looking at changing the inner cam bearings and going to S&S premium lifters and adjustable push rods. As long as the 255 looks OK, I guess I'll stay with that for the low end it seems to have.
Anyway, since I'm in there, I'm also thinking about going to the SE high volume OP and cam plate for a tad higher pressure at hot idle and perhaps better scavenging. I know the SE parts are "better" than the early twin cams but are they the same as come stock in the 2012's with the exception of the gold anodizing? No need to change if they are the same.

Your engine should have the full compliment cam bearings from the factory.
Change the lifters and leave the rest alone.

I believe the full complement cam bearings were introduced in the 110's for the 2013 model year, along with the higher capacity roller bearing lifters.

As for the oil pump and cam plate, the stock ones are fine and throwing more money at them if they are not worn isn't necessarily cost efficient.  While you have the plate out, check for abnormal wear and check the bypass valve and spring.  Low hot idle pressure is usually caused by the bypass valve not fully seating allowing some oil to leak by at idle, and the valve and/or seat machining tends to leave a lot to be desired.  Often just cleaning up the seat and valve plus verifying the correct spring length and pressure will improve that idle pressure issue.  If you decide to go with a new plate, you should still check the bypass parts for proper machining and operation.

Simple answer if you want better oil pressure at idle , better pump . Not stating you need it only going by what you are looking for.  As its all about the bypass and in some cases no matter you do it may not work as the machining is already done .

S&S plate and pump kit .
