non removable lowers
« on: February 02, 2016, 04:16:28 PM »

Hello all,

For those of you that the 2015/16 Road Glides, how do you like not being able to remove the lowers?

I am considering a new bike and always have mine off (04 flhtcse), not enough room to move my feet!

Cheers!

The only issue I've read about and one I shared was that the rear brake lever was too high for taller riders.  Several of us went to EZ Brake.  See Here:  2015 RGU: I'm Blue... So Blue...   Other wise no issue with having the lowers on

The non removable lowers have not bothered me as much as I thought.  Use to before this bike run them only in the winter.  Well placed hwy pegs helps give my plenty of positions for my feet.

I had only taken the lowers off my '11 for about a week before putting them back on because I didn't care for all the extra wind on my legs on my commute to/from work so not being able to take them off is not an issue for me.

I for one never remove(d) my lowers whether I could or not.  I paid for 'em, I'm gonna use 'em..... :2vrolijk_21:

You can't remove the lowers on any of the twin cooled bikes (CVO or otherwise) so any of the newer "rushmore" options (bat or shark) equipped with twin-cooling wouldn't be good for you if removing the lowers is required for you to achieve more leg room.  You can still remove the lowers on the non twin-cooled bikes.

Thanks all, I have a test ride setup for the 2016 CVO.

When I was up north I only used my lowers November to April(depending on the weather).

Now that I am in Central Texas, I dont plan on using them at all.

Will see how the test ride goes!

Cheers!

I thought I had read something about removing the lowers on twin cooled bikes and relocating the contents of the lowers...was I just imagining that?  I like removing the lowers.

I seem to remember reading something about that as well, but I can't remember where they moved all the components or any of the details.  But no matter where you relocate the coolant bottle, fans, and radiators, you will be bastardizing the bike and using space meant for other things.  Are you really willing to have to add a bunch of plumbing and lose the use of saddle bags or other parts of the bike, just so you can remove the lowers?  If I hated lowers that much, I wouldn't buy a late model fairing bike from H-D.  There are other choices out there.
