Now there's a contradiction in terms: "Fair market trade in value."  We know we don't get fair value on a trade-in, but sometimes it's worth it to skip the hassle of selling it ourself.

Your RK is such a beautiful bike it seems like it would sell quickly at a fair price for both you and the new owner.

You've got a beautiful bike, I'd try selling it privately before I'd trade it in....unless you're in a hurry and don't want any hassles of a private sale. As good as your bike looks, you should have plenty of interest now that the weather is turning warmer.  Good luck!

You definitely get less on the trade from dealer but you'll get a tax credit on the trade in which should save you btw $1500-2000

The 2013 RK CVO is my favorite production bike of all time. I passed Glides and other bikes, and walked straight to it. In a world where full fairings run rampant, it's nice to be able to take off that windshield and back seat and cruise around. But, all the do-dads have their practical purposes, and realize there is more to bike than looks. I'd say you're in a win/win situation. A good problem to have!

My thought is keep the King and get a bike with a Fairing.

I went from Soft tails to Road Glides, a 09 SERG, then the 12 SERG.  I then got a 13 SERK to go with the SERG.

The King is my hot rod, built motor and a blast to ride, nice for short trips, say 500 mile in a day or less.  The road glide is great for back to back 750 miles days.

My 2014 Limited had a ACV "actual cash value" of 18,000.00..  Got 23,000.00 for trade. They take  5,000.00 off the price of the 2016 CVO RGU I bought in December.  Don't forget they are at list or above on CVO's. The CVO's also have more margin. Just be careful on a test ride because your a$$ will make your wallet do things it shouldn't.

Hey Mike, I'm gonna second what Dave says above.  If you are able to do so, keep that beautiful blue SERK and add the SESG to the stable.  That way if you do decide you only need one down the road, you could sell either at your own pace and price point....just something to think about, brother.

Another thing to consider on trade-ins is local and state tax laws. In Texas if you trade a bike in you don't have to pay sales tax on that amount. So here you make 8 1/2% trading in rather than selling bike for same amount and using cash towards downpayment.
