I read thru this fully and I must admit I am amazed at the lack of understanding some have. Those of you that use a chock in the front with no tie-downs, that is crazy, even Condor says you must have two forward facing tie-downs to hold it in the chock.
Then there are those of you who for some reason tie the rear down with tie-downs facing to the rear... You do realize these in effect are pulling the bike OUT of the front chock if you experience any sort of failure to the front tie down/chock?
The front tie downs/chock (whether it be a Condor type or Pingel) are in combination to hold the bike securely vertical in the trailer, the rear tie downs are to keep the rear of the bike from "swinging" to the side in the advent of a accident and these rear ties need to pull toward the front as well. This will result in the bike being "Pulled" tightly into the chock if any of your other systems fail.
The bike has to have force holding it into the chock in the advent of a accident and that means all Four or Six tie downs must pull forward. Also using the rear crash bars will only result in a bent crashbar if you have a loss, they are merely thin-wall chrome tubing, not strong enough to hold 900# of swinging weight.
AND if you agree or disagree, I do not care how many time or miles you have done it your way, unless you are pulling forward with at least four tie-downs what you are doing is incorrect. IMHO.
