Bars, Sorry If This Is Redundant...
« on: June 18, 2016, 12:42:37 PM »

My next door neighbor just bought a new '16 SESG in black.  It's a cool looking bike and he loves it, but he wants to do higher bars.

I did a search here and there are a gazillion threads about bars and it was useless trying to find what I was looking for.

My questions are:

Are the bars measured from the lower cross bar that clamps into the tree clamps and then up to the top of the bend out to the grip area?

How much over stock can the SESG '16 go without having to add wiring extension kits or new clutch/brake lines?  Maybe the clutch/brake lines give a couple inches but you have to do the wiring extensions, or the reverse?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks for the replies.

Nick, did you have to do clutch/brake lines and wiring, or did the 10" fit with a little re-routing of the lines and wiring?

10 inch apes are suppose to be max height without extensions. They measure from the clamped portion to the grip for height. I added 10 inch apes and really like the look and feel. I went with wild ones chubby reapers.

No need for new brake and clutch lines.  You just have to extend the electric internals.

X2. I have the same bike as Nicky Pass and also installed the Yaffe 10" apes. I bought a set of Namz 4" wire extensions which are plug and play and that worked out fine.

I bought the Carlini 11" bars absolutely love them no need for extensions except for the wires I have the silver and black one also and they are a little tighter set up then the Yaffees and are true 90 bend not swooped

I installed the LA Chopper 12" Twin Peaks. Needed wiring extensions only. These come just to the top of the batwing. I initially wanted the 10" to keep them below the fairing, but the dealer said the 12" Twin Peaks was their most installed bars and they've only had praises about the comfort and positioning.  I'm happy with them, too.

You guys rock...

I'll look up the wiring extensions and other than bars, I guess that's all he'll need.

I really appreciate your advise and help with this.

Have a great day.

14" PYs

My understanding is that they are measured to the top of the peak.

Well we just finished up his bike last night with 12" 1.25" black, not sure of the brand.  He bought the cable extension from HD and the bars.  He also got the mirror cover plugs if he removes the mirrors and goes with the post type mirrors.  I think he had about $350 into everything.  He also got the urethane bushing kit.

Being rookies at this, it took me about three hours to complete.

The '16 didn't have the larger 6-pin plug, but a newer smaller 6-pin that does not require it to be taken apart.  This I'm sure helped me out a LOT...

There really isn't much adjustment when installed.  You're either hitting the inner fairing or your bars hit the tank when at full lock.  I was more than able to reuse the clutch/brake lines.  I could have gone to a 14" with his without any issues.  We had just two wiring extensions to snap in.

The worst issue we had was getting out the rear cover below the ignition switch.  It has to be "just" right to get out and back in.

I just loosened up the banjo bolts a little, still snug though, and rotated the lines for clearance between the tweeters and the bars.

All in all a very easy job.

I appreciate all of the input and help with this project, thanks...

Hope you all have a great holiday weekend.
