Has anyone successfully used an aftermarket cam in M8 131 with the HD street tuner? I am wanting just a little more duration and overlap to help cool the engine. The street tuner has already been adjusted and the bike makes 131 HP with Fullsac exhaust but the engine runs HOT.
It’s all about the combination of parts.
Is your bike twin cooled?
Oil or water?
What model bike?
For an example, mine is a 2019 CVO limited. Now a 124 with cleaned up heads, Fullsac exhaust.
And the usual parts to support low 140’s. Now using a TTS 200 cam and never had a heat issue.
TTS tuner, pro dyno guy.
Bike will still get low 40’s MPG if I’m careful! LOL
I passed on the 131 crate motor and went with Suburban speed shop parts sourcing for most of my build. Those guys really have some great parts.
I’ve got about 80K miles on this motor ( 112K miles on the bottom end) and only replaced lifters a couple times and new cam recently. When I need a total rebuild, I’ll do the same combination I have now. It works for me!
I do cross the desert sometimes and the bike still runs relatively cool.
I think the 131 is a good motor and will run better with a good tune. Maybe check with some of the dyno guys with your concerns. Like you said, maybe a cam change and better tuner?
