The two are both high quality oils. Vtwin 20-50 for engine, MTL or Primary oil, and Redline Vtwin Transmission with Shockproof

Lots of riders do just that and swear by it. Personally, I prefer using Syn3 in all 3 holes. Works just fine for me.

See reply #1…

There are lots of comments on oils.
One of my club members only uses the cheapest Walmart 20-50 engine oil for all 3 holes and his stock bike runs just fine.

My personal bikes run Mobile 1 v-twin 20-50 in the engine, redline in the transmission and HD in the primary (I have to shop at the HD sometimes due to these gift cards).
This combo works for me and the engine parts shows minimal wear after many miles.

Of course mix brands if you can't get all the same. Mobile 1 is also very good oil. Lots of room at the top for good oils. Engine oil I prefer a full synthetic.

If you travel like we do I like Syn3 because you can take 1 qt for any hole that needs topped off for any reason. Lots of other good oils out there to.

Back in the day Harley had issues with all three holes and syn3. I replaced a lot of trans bearings. There are reasons but it is not necessary to clutter up the bandwidth with oil opinions. The summary is motor oil does not have EP additives and a detergent package that is not suited to the transmission or primary, not a statement about the oil itself or the brand. The compensator has also proven, over the years, to be in need of quality lubrication which is why I recommend changing every engine oil change and that at intervals of 3000 miles. The Shockproof has higher viscosity than Harley Formula and slows the gears down faster with clutch in so easier to find neutral. Harley Heavy Gear Oil is same viscosity as Shockproof Heavy.

Yes you can mix different brands in different holes.
You can even mix different brands engine oil as long as it is pretty much the same grade and type: 20/50 Synthetic with 20/50 Synthetic.
But your best bet is right viscosity for your climate...and engine oil in engine every 5k miles.  Primary oil in primary every 10k miles, and transmission oil in transmission every 20k miles. Or more frequently if you ride really hard, or in really hot climates, or take really short trips -or just like throwing money at your bike.
