Focal speakers leak?
« on: October 12, 2016, 03:20:04 PM »

A friend of mine had Soundz Customz put Focal speakers in his after market bag lids on his 2013 RG. When it rains his saddlebags fill with water. It's not where the speaker seals to lid. You can pour water directly into speakers and water will run through them and into saddlebags. Is this normal? What is the cure? Different speaker covers/screens? These are oval speakers. Thanks

WOW..that's not good.  Sounds like something is wrong with the speakers or it is a miss application.

I know that on my OEM speakers that they hold the water.  After it rains, I open the saddlebags, water drips/runs out of the speaker lids.

Please let know how this ends.....I was just getting ready to order a set.

No. . That isn't it at all. . . You have a standard coaxial speaker. .  There is a space between the woofer and the tweeter post. . That is why it leaks.  Pete liked those focal 5x7 s that to me didn't even sound that good. . I had them. Gave then back to him.  Maybe you got mine 😊. . . What you need is a bridge mounted tweeter coaxial.. . Look at hybrid audio.  They have a great sounding 5x7 that won't leak at all.  That will take care of that. . Stuart.

Wow. With all the great reviews on here for both Focal and Soundz Customz I didn't think that leaking would be normal. Would definitely be unacceptable if it were my bike. Are all of you that are using Focal speakers in lids having the same problem?

Pete generally puts Hybrid Audio Technology (HAT's) in the lids. I've had zero problems with mine over 3 years. Since its not your bike, your friend should be able to contact Pete directly and he'll handle it, I'm sure. He's a standup guy.

Thanks. He's going to talk to Pete in a few weeks at the Lone Star Rally

HATs in the bags. . You won't be sorry. .  Pete goes for the sound. . That is the prime thing with him. . He loves focal. .  He put those in my last bike.  They leaked of course. .  I bought the Hat myself. . Gave him back the focals that leaked.  Didn't even take anything for them.  Stuart
