communication from cvo rider to switchback rider
« on: October 11, 2016, 10:20:06 AM »

I've been riding a 2011 RGU CVO for 3 months. ;D  Haven't used any electronics other than radio.  My dad just purchased a 2014 switchback.  we would like to be able to communicate on our longer rides.  what has worked well for CVO owners?  I appreciate the knowledge and information you all have to offer. :nixweiss:

Welcome to the site, heyhar.  Congratulations on your CVO RGU.

Your Dad could try a portable CB with a headset or you both could try a Bluetooth system.  J&M, makes a good portable CB set. SENA makes a very good bike to bike Bluetooth system. There are of course other brands of each. The Harley CB system has worked very well for me.

I use a helmet mounted Interphone intercom so I can talk to my girlfriend on her bike. It's ok but range is only 800 metres (half a mile) so we have lost contact when split up by traffic.

Bluetooth headset to cell phone will give you unlimited range as long as you have cell service

My wife and I use these. The batteries last for long days as long as we charge them when we stop for lunch.....and supper if a really long day in the saddle.
If we get separated by traffic and lose contact........there will be cell phone service.

Sena SMH10, I have been using them for several years and some other gadgets of theirs.
I used the headset on the RK originally just to get tunes, using an iPhone as a source.
I now use it on the Ultra as intercom with other riders and also to get all the bike's radio stuff, the Garmin's directions, iPhone notifications and TPMS warnings, all piped into my helmet.
On our Montana trip I intercom-ed with three other riders for nearly 5000 miles.
If you ride with a half-helmet or without a lid, Sena makes headsets for those uses as well.
Yes. I'm a fan.

Sena is more popular to the motorcycling community.  It also depends of the helmet you use.  ie: Half helmet, open face, full face.  Some fit better that others.  Cardo also very good.  I have a Schuberth Full Face that has the integrated bluetooth in it (made by Cardo and is great) but I can only connect to another cardo rider.  All my other buddies have Sena.  I can't seem to get mine to pair to theirs.

My wife rides a Switchback as well and we use the Sena 20s when just the 2 of us are out.  Fantastic units and great range as they have a little popup antenna to increase range and for the built in FM radio.  Twin pack is cheaper then buying 2 separate units.
