Perhaps pictures of all the different types of cups, large and small, will help us figure out which cups are best with or without technology upgrades. HA

How to deal with rear tire cupping?
« Reply #16 on: December 02, 2016, 10:11:26 AM »

I too am suffering with tire cupping with the noise that comes with it. Just thinking out loud, would using a DA style sander with some 80 grit paper to take off the high spots be a viable solution? Seems like it would be no worse than riding on rough pavement. The tire has several thousand miles left in the center tread. Or should I just plan on riding it until the noise becomes too annoying and finish it off with a couple of epic burnouts? If the survey says burnout, I will post a video and pics! :orange:

I'll be doing a burn-out when my cupped Dunlop goes away.....and gets replaced by a Michelin Commander II.....which has good reviews!

Yes, the burnout thing, then buy a Dunlop American Elite. 4,000 miles so far on mine, and its still round.

I like the Mic IIs but unfortunately they cupped just As bad as the Lops. May try the Dunlop Am Elite next time but I don't think there is any way to stop the rear tire cupping. I am meticulous about maintaining tire pressure and balance, don't do burnouts or ride hard at all. I ride long but moderately yet all rear tires cup way before the tire is worn out.

I just replaced my tires with the Michelin Commander II.  Of course the ride is excellent again, handling is much improved and the noise on the corners is gone. I had a little over 18K.

I have a 2009 SG and I put an American Elite on the front this spring @ 4,800 miles because the previous owner ran it with low air pressure. I have around 10,500 miles on it and I really like the AE front tire.

I replaced the original rear with an AE at 9,000 miles after a trip because of the howling in the corners and the age. I really like the American Elites and I hope that I can get many miles out of them with no cupping. I have not been caught in the rain with them, so I really cannot comment on their ability to handle wet roads.
