Stock Decat and CFR's
« on: December 19, 2016, 07:06:04 PM »

'16 flhxse. Bike was stock, went with stock decatted and cfr mufflers. I haven't done a tuner yet, was curious on how it would respond. Start idle good. Low rpm(1500-2000 or so) stumble cough backfire but clear and go. Mid range-up seems strong.  Pretty sure another FP3 will be my choice just curious on the stumble. My 103 HO's with the same set-up ran decent with no tuner, just curious if the 110 is rather lean in comparison.

110's run hotter, run leaner, are more finicky, and easier to break.. its bored with a big cam right out of the box.

if you have a stock air cleaner on it, it might not burn up

there are lots of threads about tuning 110's and issues they have - cfr's will be hard to tune in the first place - on a 110 it will be more difficult. de cat and cfr and you may actually break it.

good luck

That's a big X2. (Meaning I agree strongly with Timo's comments)

well I'm not going to run it without a tuner, I was just asking if this is how they react. All I did was run it around the block to check how she was running. The air cleaner is stock and staying stock.

The issue with the cfr is the backpressure, always has been, Each time I ran these I used a bct insert and the low end loss was about nullified.

Tell me more about the BCT insert into a megaphone style exhaust.  Is it the cones and do those just jam up into the megaphone?

I have not done the inserts, went ahead put a FP3 on it. However, they do just slip up into the end of the headpipe and are held in place with a bolt. I modded mine by drilling out the washer a bit. Larger the hole, more sound. It's just adding a restriction. It nearly kills the reverb, if you know what that is. True duals and CFR's have some serious reverb. Back off the throttle about 3500rpms in gear and it growls something serious. Doesn't work with any sort of X/crossover pipe and the inserts really do away with it. sounds like a motorcycle version of a J brake.

FWIW, I bought the QQ bct inserts and pulled off the cone and drilled the washer with a 1/2" bit. This was a true dual 103ho with CFR's. Bike had great low end, right off idle.
