New Pro Street Upfitted with 117 kit Overheats
« on: July 12, 2017, 02:28:40 PM »

Hi my brand new scoot seems to HATE stop and go traffic (mainly the stop part) goes to Parade mode almost instantly (or EITM if you prefer). Seems a little too soon to me, wondering if any fellow 117 owners are getting the same. Maybe it is not a concern but I could count on one hand how many times my 12 year old Ultra has done it, including all the parades, charity rides etc.

Check your manual to see if your EITMS system uses engine temperature to determine when to engage, or if it's like the Touring models that use outside air temperature instead.  I can't remember if Harley changed the Softails to ambient temp activation or not.

X-2 on the tune, lean at idle is a bad combination, they will run hot. Mine is 10:6.1 static, corrected 9:96.1 ,was stuck in St Louis traffic last weekend for 15-20 minutes @ 95 degrees, not  a  problem, fans came on could feel it definitely getting warmer..all good

Thanks to all for the input, she's still running on a break-in map which is supposedly on the fat side, per the mother ship at least. I'll pull a plug tomorrow and take a look. Maybe I just need to get through the break-in burps until I can get her on the dyno for the final tune. Hell the clutch took 200 miles to seat and quit ratcheting. RIDE ON!

As Kirby said, watch the canned maps and the break in. Not to open a big debate but would suggest finding a good tuner and let him break the bike in on the dyno as he is building the tune. On the motor I am running now tuner asked that I pretty much just start the bike to make sure it runs, then shut it off and bring it to him. Was really nice to hear the bike as it was being broke in and the difference you would hear as it was broke in and as the tune came together

Check the specifications of the EITMS system. With a good flash tuner such as the TTS there will likely be a remedy in the hands of a good tuning shop. This is assuming everything mechanically is right. I always recommend head fans with these larger builds

Agree with fans. Mine heats up fast in stop and go traffic. Have two oil coolers and head fans. The fans made a huge difference. The EITMS system would kick in after two minutes at idle. After the fans, I let it idle for 10 minutes in 85 degree sunshine. The EITMS system never came on.

X-2 on the dyno break in...mine never got above 215 doing a break in tune, only way to break one in., total control of the process.  Canned maps are a crap shoot at best,..there is no substitute for a professional  tune and break in under controlled conditions.
