Rear Fender Struts
« on: March 04, 2005, 03:27:40 PM »

Can someone let me know if the bike needs to be on a frame jack for any reason when loosening the rear fender strut bolts?  I hope I don't sound like too much of an incompetent wrench, but I do not mind doing some things myself, and I would like to avoid creating other problems to fix.

I am putting some Tail Gunner Bags on and they bolt up under the fender.

While I am asking, there is not much room to maneuver when I reach under, any helpful tips?

Paul,

I took off the license plate bracket to trim it off and replace with a axel mount.  To do this I had to remove the struts..not an easy task.  There are bolts in both directions....from the inside and from under the strut.  You may not have to go as far as I did though.

I removed the chrome belt guards...I will probably leave them off as I like the looks better.  This made it a little easier.  Also, I did not lift the bike for the job...was on the Jiffy stand the whole time.

Also, I found the ratcheting wrenches very useful versus a socket set.

If you don't remove the wheel, it is a long tedious process.
