lowering an '07 SERK
« on: February 20, 2007, 01:23:45 PM »

On the HD web site for the '07 SERK it states that it includes low profile suspension.  But the listed height for the stock Road King Custom is lower than the SERK.

I not sure if I should get the HD front and rear lowering kits or pursue another option.

I did a search and had a few hits in reference to the '02/'03 SERK but nothing in reference to the '07.

Thanks in advance.

The bike is lowered in the rear already.  So getting the lowered rears would be redundent.  Forks could be lowered, but watch your lean angle. The seat height is because of the seat.  The custom has the same lowered rear suspension also.

Are the ground clearances the same for your bike and the regular custom?  Seat height could be different, but ground clearance should be the thing that tells you if there is a difference.  Same wheel diameters on both...and tires?

one option to get you lower is a set of air adjustable shocks, depending on the reasons you want to be lower.  I have Legends on my SEUC for two reasons...one, because it's a better suspension, and two, it lowers the bike 3.5 inches when I need it to be lower for walking it around, parking, etc.

the 07 serk has the air shocks.

check and make sure you don't have way too much air in yours.
I traded an 05 RKcustom,  for my 07 serk.  I don't notice any difference in the seat height.  and I'm only 5' 8"

Why do you want to lower the bike? If you lower the front, you will change your rake and this will, in my opinion, make the bike less stable at higher speeds.

In your picture with the child on back, you seem to have enough leg bend holding your scooter for that pose of picture
About how much lower would you like to lower your scoot? BTW Nice pic

Dereck, I would try to leave the suspension alone on the SERK. This bike is fairly low as it is. You look pretty flat-footed in your pic. I'm 5-9 and have run stock suspension on my other RK's, and have always been comfortable. This bike is so much lower. Personally, I wouldn't give up any more lean angle! ;) Hoist! 8)

Besides...with it already haveing lowered rear suspension, any lower and you'll be sacraficing ride quality.

If you want...just get some bar stock cut to the length you need and take those rear shocks out completely.  Drill  a couple of holes in the lowered height you want and there you have it.  A HARD TAIL!!!  :huepfenlol2:

Enjoy the ride!
