Harmon Kardon Display
« on: April 29, 2018, 06:05:49 PM »

Anyone know of a repair shop in Canada that can fix or replace the display on a HK audio system?

Mine is an 09 CVO Road Glide.... Stereo works fine but the display fades in and out.

Pulled the stereo, removed the display, cleaned the contacts between the display and base unit (they were clean to begin with), applied dielectric grease and reinstalled..... Didn't fix it.

Appreciate any help or advice !

If your '09 is like my '09 SERG, I have to beat like hell to get my front fairing into place and locked on.  In the process of beating the front fairing upward and back, it tends to dislodge the front radio face from the radio.

I've had mine out twice now and the face works, but no red lights for night riding.  I'm living with that for now.

Iron Cross charges a flat $250 for any minor/major repair of the HK head units.  So that's why I'm not running to get mine fixed at this time.

I also found that if I push in on the bottom of the front face, the light will come on while I'm pushing it in.

On yours, if you push in on the bottom will the screen show up?  It has to be the row of multi pins in the center bottom, that's all that connects the face to the radio head.  Or worse case you face is really just bad.

Good luck with your radio and let us know what you do to fix it.

Dan,

Thanks, I will try that tonight.
The trick to getting the outer fairing back on is to screw the headlight adjustment screws in so the don't need to hit the holes in the inner fairing. Easy peazy!
A dealer in California took mine off to install Daymaker headlights and 2 techs spent 3 hours getting it back on. The Service Manager wouldn't allow me to go into the shop and show them how easy it is if you screw in the adjustment screws.

Rascal, I'll give that a try.

Although with my new "clone" daymaker assembly, I think the adjuster bolts stick out a LOT more through the holes.

I guess all I have to do is count the turns and put it back when I'm through.

It would be a great experience to do the front a bit faster.

Although I had my front off and did some work on a Saturday.  I put it back on and the wife an I rode to meet about 6 other friends for an even out.  When we left the place we all walked up onto the brick paved street under the street light and they admired our bike.  We got on and I hit the switch and no headlights... :(

I had forgotten to plug them in.  So with only my trusty HD tool kit that came with the bike, I had the fairing off, the lights plugged back and motor running in less than half an hour.  It totally amazed me that it fit back on so easily that night.  Since then not so lucky...

Thanks again and I'll try your trick.
