Dead instruments?
« on: April 25, 2019, 10:21:46 AM »

Hi,
Yesterday I noted that my speedometer suddenly showed 0 when riding.
Also the fuel gauge and others indicators were “unlit”. The only thing showing was the trip meter.

When slowing in traffic and pulling the clutch the engine stalled, and I had to keep some revs all the time.
After a while all worked fine again...

Today it happened again, slow traffic, pulled the clutch and the engine stalled. Saw the “dead” instruments and rode on, but this time I had to stop and restart in order to get the instruments lit up again.

Anyone knows anything about what could be wrong?

Sorry for posting this in wrong board, but I did not think of the original instrumentation as Electronic Toys or a Gadget.🤨

I don't see anywhere what bike you own. It may help if you tell people year and model. Many people put that information somewhere in their profile. That way you won't have to keep listing year/model in posts and it's there if you forget.

My friends 2014 Road King CVO began stalling and popping and Security lights intermittently.   We tracked it down to a broken wire inside the insulation on the left side.   They flex every time you turn the handlebars and when you park they flex all the way as the bars turn left.   They can cause an intermittent like that.    Try reaching in and pulling and pinching the wires near the handlebars and see if the problem comes and goes...

If you haven't made any electrical changes or done anything out of the ordinary you might try shaking the ignition switch around in the on position to see if everything comes alive. I just had a corroded switch give me hell on Saturday. Tach, speedo, and turn signals were all dead. Pulled and cleaned up the inside of the switch. It was a mess in there. Good to go now...

Thanks, the only switch I have is the “Run/Off” switch, will look inside to see how it looks. And next time (hopefully never) try to turn it on and off to see if that helps.
