I run the SE tapereds with stock tubes using the aforementioned Fueling tool.  The Colony adjustable tubes appear identical to the ones included in the SE kit.
Do you have a link or part number to the fueling tool and or colony tubes? There are a number of colony tubes. Is it DS-193758
Is it difficult to adjust the rods with the stock tubes? Trying to see how the tool would assist...

Colony Twin Cam Quick Install Lower Pushrod Tube Kit DS193758

Fueling Pushrod Tube Holder Tool 9012

You cannot easily install adjustables in stock tubes without this tool.

Ok, thanks. The holder just clips to the bottom of the stock pushrod tube holder and tapper block?

That holder looks like a $20 way to avoid using a paperclip and a rubber band....?

No stock tubes or fancy gizmos that make you think the job will be easy, it is not. Those comp/ SE pushrods are the easy ones and work well with their shorter lower tubes and longer clips

If you install adjustables with the new tubes you don't need the Fueling tool, the rubber bands with paper clips works fine

If you want to install adjustables with the stock tubes you need the Fueling tool.  You'll also need a thick blade screwdriver with a rubber tip cover to load the pushrod tube inner coil spring enough to place it in correctly.

If you absolutely have to have the Smiths Bros pushrods do yourself a favor and buy the tubes and clips. I have them, others sell them. Back to value for the money 18404-08. Right out of the wrapper to the bike. One at a time and plenty of room to get wrenches in to adjust. I have used them all and worn out the swear words some caused.

What are the characteristics of the S&S quickies that make a lot of people prefer them over the SE tapered ones?

I actually have a question about the difference in thread pitch between the two.

1) Is the course thread of the SE more or less likely to come loose?

2) Of the two, which one is less likely to bend or brea?

The instruction sheets are online.
There is no significant difference between them functionally or in terms of reliability. A few less than great mechanics have broken the nuts by over tightening them on the SE pushrods. Neither come loose or fail if installed properly.
The quickees, look at them. See the long thin adjuster section? What happens there? Not break, they don't, they flex.
