Lifters with se259 cams
« on: April 09, 2020, 04:15:40 PM »

Since most people blame lifter failures to the se255 cam what happens when you change cams . I know the springs are also blamed but most people blame the aggressive ramps of the 255 cam. Just asking.

I installed a 24D cams in my 2016 CVO SG, installed new S&S lifters, did not do the springs, it was the quietest twin cam I ever heard, I don't know if this answered your question, but also know of a couple other motors with this set up that have quite a few miles on them

I was just wondering if the lifters still had a high failure rate with a different cam. I also have a 2016 CVO LIMITED and did S&S lifters plus the 117 big bore kit

With a twin cam I would have replaced the lifters every 30K just to be on the safe side, with adjustable push rods its a easy change

"Since most people blame lifter failures to the se255 cam what happens when you change cams"

You partially solved the problem.
A higher quality lifters such as the Hylift slow bleed lifters is an improvement
A change to a dual spring with reasonable rate and seat pressure the other improvement

Consider these changes in order of importance but none by themselves are the full solution.

The wild card is what cam will be used to replace the SE255? :-\
