Harley-Davidson stock What's happening?
« on: March 27, 2007, 03:24:06 PM »

Harley's stock (HOG) has taken a hit recently .  It was around 64 and is now under 58-59.  Anybody know what's happening?  Is this a good time to buy or is the worse yet to come?

Wall Street is concerned about mortgages lately.  Harley depends on bike loans, so there is some major concern in that area.

I've had HDI stocks for a number of years.  I've saw it go up a lot and once in awhile it goes down.......a little.  I've never saw it do what it's doing now.

HD stocks were not tied to the economy (home sales, stock market) so much in the past, like other stocks are.  I've saw them go up when every other stock was going down and I've been a holder of them during two different splits.  Those were definately good times and I'd like to see that again.  I'm not sure what is going on right now but I recently bought another batch.

New bike demand is going down overall I think, except for us OCD's. Lots of rumors about the 110" heat issues, etc. have kept some buyers away for at least a while.

Unfortunately, I know of a few that took out a questionable second or third mortgage to pay off cards (yeah right) and buy some toys (HD, boats, etc.) and of course now they are in deep doo-doo. The ballons are about to burst to unbelievable levels, 2-3X their current payments.  :toilet:

The lenders that pushed those trash loans are like vultures.

Well the strike didn't help, and many stocks in general have cooled off right now. Below is one reason the stock maybe down!!  Read this post under Twin Cam.

Look back over 6 months, draw an imaginary line through the graph and if the price is still rising hang on, if the share price drops below your imaginary line dump them.

One problem is back in the day owners of Harley dealerships did it because they loved the bikes, now with the Harley explosion, there are many people getting into it because they see money. Just look at the dealerships in your area. The one near me was in a quonset hut in the 80's, now look at what they have!!!!! Looks like a ski lodge! Not the same owner either, was John's HD in the 80's.
