Thanks for all the insight on 110"
« on: April 05, 2007, 12:30:05 PM »

Gentlemen,

Having purchased a 2007 Dyna Screaming Eagle at the beginning of December, I thought I had the ultimate ride and would be trouble free. A friend of mine guided me to this site, and I have become educated! I have 1250 miles on her, and she runs pretty good although a little on the "warm side". After reading all the input on this site, I have put my name on the list for the Harley Race Tuner currently on national backorder. I am confident that with the addition of the race tuner, K&N air filter, and using Mobil 1 20w50 I should be running sufficiently cooler as well as quicker. Thank you all for your insights!

I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

FD,

Congratulations!!  And OF Course,  forget that SERT, you have to rely on a tuner, or be a mathematician and computer guru to do it yourself.

Call ZippersPerformance.com - check out the website and buy yourself the latest & greatest AutoTune system and cool off.

Rhino

ps: yes I have one and love it on my 110 Jester and no, I do not work for them, and yes, I have the fastest machine stock version, using Zippers.

So you wouldn't recommend the Harley Race Tuner?  It interfaces directly with the stock ecm, and has reflash capability for the latest reprogramming. No dyno adjustments needed, I thought that would be a plus-and it doesn't conflict with the warranty. I am still pretty new to all this, so any insight is deeply appreciated. Also, I tried to update the profile but it keeps going to a blank screen after hitting change profile, and it doesn't save any of the changes...anyone know what's up?

You realistically have three options: (Alphabetically listed so as not to offend anyone)

Dynojet Power Commander
HD SERT
Zippers Thundermax w/Auto Tune Module

**** All modifications have possible warranty implications ****

The first two require manual tuning, normally requiring dyno time. The Power Commander usually takes less time to tune than the SERT. Dyno time = $$.

The Zippers is an auto tuning device and has performed very well for the members on this site that have installed it.

Most people choose what their dealer / tuner is most comfortable with, which is normally the SERT or the PC. The Zippers unit is pretty new, so there is a limited amount of experience with it. Auto tuning is new and really cool.

I would assume that if you are going to get your bike tuned by a dealer, they will more than likely reccomend the SERT.

Any of the choices above will yield a great running bike. Speak with whomever will be working on your bike, and listen to them. If you're going to be doing your own work, then you may want to dig a bit deeper to see which path is the right path for you.

Best of luck,

Chief

One addendum to Chief's list is that if you go Auto Tune with the Thundermax that you will need bungs in your pipe to handle the wide band sensor.   While it is not a big deal it is a consideration depending on which pipes you choose and or having to add them into your mix to get going.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the input...I am definitely getting the education I so desperately need to have the performance and stability I want from my "starter kit". So, how much did your $30,000.00 bike cost? Uh, right around $40,000.00 after tax, tags, delivery, modification, medication... :drink:

Chief couldn't have said it better...all I'll add is the SERT and PC leave your stock ECM in the bike...the Zipper's replaces the ECM and O2sensors.  My dealer is honoring my warranty with the SERT married in to my ECM because they did the mod.  The PC can be removed to put your bike back to stock, if you think there might be a warranty issue when you take the bike in for service.  The Zipper's, which is the better unit and a true closed-loop system, has to be totally removed, along with sensors if there may be an issue of warranty repairs.  You need to go with whatever you're more comfortable with first, and then what your dealer will honor, warranty-wise, if any, if that's important to you.  Just my $.02.
Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

Flyndyna do yourself a favor and do the Zippers Thunder Max with auto tune. It is so easy to install just about anyone can do it. No tuning needed. It will come loaded with a base map and will auto tune itself. If you have a warranty issue just simply remove it and reinstall your stock ECM. One thing to remember this system like the others will help you motor live longer. It will run cooler and last longer. I don't think warranty will be the issue here. You will also have a building block to build your motor with at a later date if you choose to do any motor mods.

Be Safe
