SEEG 05 RADIO PROBLEMS
« on: April 23, 2007, 04:20:40 PM »

Just thought i'd share this bit of useful info, just lately my radio sometimes went off under HARD acceleration, local dealer did'nt have much idea as to what the problem was, so I called John Smith at Radio Sound, he immedietly suggested moving the battery clamp  :confused5:(away from starter relay) so I did but no improvement so I called him back and he said he was sure the starter relay was faulty, so the dealer changed the relay and, Hey Presto :huepfenjump3: it doesnt go off anymore, so a MASSIVE BIG UP John Smith and the guys at Radio Sound :drink:  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21::bananarock: :bananarock: :bananarock:

Glad you got the problem solved.  It is refreshing to be able to call someone up that actually knows what the solution is to a problem anymore.   :2vrolijk_21: to RadioSound.

Can you compare notes with me?  today I noticed for the first time that my radio would blink off and on under moderare acceleration...  in city traffic so not blazing.

did it about three times in two minutes.....

i thought ( as silly as it sounds) the Garmin might be pushing the charging system too hard..so i shut it down  for about 5 minutes.
then rebooted it..
i couldnt get the condition to repeat...

does this sound similar?  if so, i'll the starter relay done

Thanks

Scot

Scot, I never turn my Garmin off in the truck and seldom when it is on the bike while I am still riding (but stopped, say for dinner)

So I doubt it is your garmin, unless it is a XM model, and that it will drain the battery with the bike off, fast. The XM antenna takes a lot of juice.

I had my head unit replaced once, early on, due to the CD player skipping.  Today I wash my bike and now the stereo will not go into the Aux. mode so that I can play my XM via my Garmin.  Looks like I'm about due for another head unit? :nixweiss: Damn glad I hung onto that extended warranty.

didnt really think that little bit of draw would cause a problem.....  but it was the only thing different..and ( so far) it hasnt repeated itself ( knocking every piece of wood he can find)

My Garmin is with XM and I leave it on whenever my bike is on.......I haven't had the problem that you mention.

Sorry for the delay Scot, I've been offline for 5 weeks or so. :( thats how mine started over 12 months ago, there was no pattern in when it happened it could be fine for weeks then it would do it a couple of times then be ok. When it took it over to Sturgis last year the thing would go off for hours then it would come back on but nearly everytime it went off it was under acceleration, so for the price of a relay I would shove one in, Andy, the chrome guru and parts specialist says there have been a number of these relays going down resulting in the recovery to the dealer :( I hope this helps....Ady  ps i know my reply is in the quote box but i really dont know how to use it  :-X :bananarock: :bananarock: :bananarock:

Is there a heavy duty version of the starter relay and what is the part number?
