Changing Plugs?
« on: November 05, 2007, 10:28:13 AM »

I was reading an artical on BMW's latest wonder engine (car) and how it uses an ion-sensing system to detect detonation for spark timing.  It also mentioned that HD uses the same system on the new bikes.  I knew that, but it got me wondering - is there something different with the plugs on these since it is also acts as the sensor?  That is, if you switch to a different plug is it possible to screw up the spark retard?

As long as you use the recommended resistor type plug and the gap is correct - not a problem

yep, it senses resistance in the secondary ignition side, aftermarket wires will trick the ionic sensor as well.

i use autolites as replacement for oem champions with no ill effect.
