08 fake out
« on: July 28, 2007, 04:38:40 PM »

just got back from the dealer for regulator recall and they have a box with 08 badges for any one to buy. It looks just like the ones on the anniversary models. they have 1903 to 2008 on them. If you buy a ultra classic in cooper and put on the badger's, I think they would look a lot like the anniversary model. Thats new for Harley.

Didn't they do the same thing in 2003?  As I recall, they sold accessory 100th Anniversary badges for fenders, sissy bar backs, etc.  Anyone could get one and stick it anywhere.  The only controlled items were the timer, derby and air cleaner covers on the Silver-Black 100th Anniversary bikes.  If you boogered up one of those, you had to turn it in along with your VIN before they'd let you order a new one............and then came eBay, where even today, one can buy those "controlled" items, which someone has taken off their Silver-Black 100th Anniversary Bike and replaced with something else.

I am more than happy, in fact couldn't be more happy, with my 104th edition...and I wouldn't want that crap on her anyway. Even the 100th edition fatboy was not good enough for me. I sold her to a German national while stationed there, and don't miss her at all, even if she did have cheap medallions. What makes these aniversary models so special, when there are a gazillion of them ruuning around? Arh...  :soapbox:

There's not always a gazillion of everything. I gave a good friend on the site a 100th Anniversary laser etched gas cap. I had gotten it new and in the box and in 4 years hadn't used it so it seemed it should go to someone who would appreciate it. That small favor has been paid back so many times I am starting to get embarassed. Ok, I'm off topic here  The point is, I've never seen another one. I know there has to be a bunch out there, but they certainly are not everywhere. Whenever H-D issues this anniversary stuff, it seems there are always one or two items that seem to get left by the wayside. Maybe I'm just a sucker for H-D's marketing or maybe like a family member, I love my H-D's warts and all.

Belive me, I am a fan of many off items, such as the etched gas caps, etc., but I guess my pointed   :soapbox: was for the over marketing of these aniversary models that the MOCO always seems to come out with every 5 years. I loved the 100th edition I had, but it wasn't that special when there were a dozen or more running around the same small town. But I'm cool with my SERK, there is only one other in town right now, and it is a Black Ice. Anyways, I love the warts too.

I'm just trying to get the picture.

I've done some checking and I believe the only way to get the copper/black paint scheme on any model it to buy an anniversary edition fo that model in the first place.  On the ultra classic copper/black anniversary edition, not to be confused with the Screaming Eagle version, there is a big winged anniversary badge on the tank which has the 1903/2008 105th already.

Maybe Harley is hoping we'll buy the badges and just stick them everywhere to help them out...

According the brochure and pictures I've seen for my new '08 SERK Anniverary edition that I won't have until November sometime, I will only be getting a smaller version of this badge and it will be stuck on the side panel, not ever the tank.  So from this the stock, non CVO bike, will have larger badging than the CVO bikes, or at least the SERK.

Time will tell just how the whole 105th thing turns out.
