Ultrafxr,

That is my understanding in regards to that setting is that they use this setting to allow the closed loop to be activated then you can play with the fuel based on the percentage of throttle that is applied.   I have not tested it though, but that was what was explained to me.

I am hoping to play on a dyno in the next few weeks with a sniffer in the muffler so I can keep the narrows in place and see what happens.   I cant test it at home to get A/F because i only have one set of bungs in the pipes atm and have no inclination to buy a 2nd set of pipes just to add an extra bung to each to satisfy my curiousity.

Personally I feel it would be better to just leave the narrows in place and by pass them with a moderate fuel setup for economy and power and live with it vs. playing with this heat game, but I do live in florida so the heat is a major concern for me many months of the year.

I guess for those who want to keep the closed loop system with the stock ECU, but if you can't tune the AFR in closed loop, and if it won't auto tune, I don't see much use for the narrow band sensors anyway.

Talon,

I agree which is why I have mine tuned the way I do.  But curiosity and learning has the better of me so rather than just understand the side I want and am comfortable with,  I am going to play with the other and see how it works.  Like I said earlier I really think this is an EPA deal, but could also be a baby step into the closed loop realm as a phased approach /shrug

There are 2 inputs into adjustig your sert, the base tables and the closed loop bias tables which are applied to your map in closed loop. Yes, the closed loop kicks in when the afr is set at 14.6 but with the clbt, you can run it a richer setting in closed loop. Majority of the time you are cruising on the hwy, you will be in closed loop as you will be mostly at steady state throttle. It will help gas mileage and run engine cooler as you will be running a richer fuel air mixture compared to stock. Find a tech experienced in using a sert and you will be happy. I have seen the same bikes with same mods have torque curves upto 15% different because someone didnt understand how to tune the sert. It could take 2 hours on the dyno or take 6 hours.

From the nightrider.com article, it appears that you need the wide band sensors plus a SERT, if you don't want extra parts on your bike, to make your motorcycle run in a closed loop mode while getting the proper AFR.
