Broken Air Cleaner Cover?
« on: August 26, 2007, 10:22:33 PM »

For those CVO Owners whom have the round CVO SE 110 cubic Inch air cleaner (29199-07), I encourage you to remove cover and inspect it!

Today, I pulled my cover for another project and took a look at the spacer that is spot welded on the inside.  It is tacked in three places and I discovered that all three welds are cracked and have penetrated all the way through the cover.

I'm sure it would have been just a matter of time riding down the road that the cover would have been dangling off the screw that secures it to the filter!

Sorry for the pic, it was hard to take a picture of the spacer, but all three spot welds are cracked and have penetrated through the cover on the other side.

Cut that spacer off mine before it ever went on the bike.  Wanted the leg room.

Sorry if I asked you this before, but if you have the HD backing plate, did the cover hit the two mounts where it attaches to the head?  I believe that's why the spacer is there.  Poor design.

Here is the cover mentioned above.

Now that the spacer is off, can you remove that rubber gasket on the filter and see if the air cleaner cover hits those two chrome breatrher bolt mounts.  If it isn't any issue, you are better off without that metal spacer, the cover will fit better and more leg room.  Just a great opportunity to test a theory.

Thanks
