Gauge lights replace with LED?
« on: August 26, 2007, 06:02:44 PM »

Has anyone replaced thier gauge lights with the LED's? Theres a company out there for around 20 bucks you can get direct replacement wedge type bulbs that are LED and colors are available. I was wondering if anyone here had tried them. My gas gauge went dark and I have been looking for alternatives, mostly because these bulbs arent bright enough for my old eyes.

The little lights are definitely almost amusingly bad at night.  I keep waiting for one to burn out.  Then replace all at the same time.  When you want something to fail it never will....

Check with Custom Dynamics again Scot.  Pretty sure I remember seeing them on their website.

Before ordering these: "The LED lights have a special concave lens that causes the light to be emitted from the side rather than the front of the LED. NOTE: The LED Instrument Light Kit does not fit the 2007 Electra Glides or any other model that does not use standard wedge type bulbs."   :nixweiss:

From their website.......

Try:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html

Use the WLED x5 bulbs. They fit fine and work great. The red is a match for the factory color and they are brighter.  I also ordered a set of blue ones. I like the blue because I can read the auxillary guages easier at night, and they look cool.

But will they work on the '07's?

AJ, on the 110s adding these little LEDs to the instruments in the fairing will make the head gaskets leak oil.

As far as I know the '07s use the same gauges as the 04, 05 and 06 bikes. So should be fine.

I always thought the heat from the filament bulb caused the gas gauge to fog up. Did swapping to the LEDs help that at all? I'll get them anyway but that would be a sweet plus.

I have never had a fogging problem, the gas gauge just went dark, as soon as the ordered bulbs come in I'll install and report.

Those that had it would/could fog up sitting still overnight, going down the road in a rain storm or while washing the bike.  They fog because they can not because of the bulbs.  Not all do it though.  And some that don't for a long time then start to.  One of those "just live with it" things we have to do with Harley because a replacement gauge will make no difference.
