I originally posted several months back that I was installing the Fairing Oil Temp Gauge on my bike. It worked great when I had it on my '05 Ultra, but then again, the temp sensor was in a common sense place on that bike. Unfortunately on the FLHTCUSE, it is installed on the oil cooler line.
I know others posted optional places to mount, i.e., underneath, etc.. But I chose to stay with the Harley recommended location in case there would be any warranty issues..
I was just wondering if anyone has one that works properly? I ended up getting a dipstick gauge just to see how hot I was running and this weekend, I was at 270 degrees oil temp and the Fairing Gauge barely registered 110!
Does anyone know what temp the oil cooler trips to full flow? Even when that is not full open, there should be some flow? Correct? It should have at least shown something closer to 200 at that temp! I was wondering if the thermostat was bad in my oil cooler adapter..
Any thoughts?
I searched this thread just after I got off the phone with Marvin of Jagg. (I am getting a 10 row downtube mounted cooler for Kaz' sidehack equipped bike and was checking install details- i.e. will it fit)
He had an enlightening comment (which I will try to get right)
Reason the recommended oil filter adapter sensor point vs the oil pan sensor point readings are different is because the oil filter adapter point measures the oil temp BEFORE it goes to the engine while the pan measures the oil AFTER it has gone throught the engine. They will definitely read differently (and the factory wasn't so stupid after all- the actual temp of the oil GOING to the engine is probably more useful although the mounting arrangement is goofy). However I also have the pan install and I do like to be able to 'read' worst case oil temp. It is pretty clear both temperatures will go up at the same time...

I am thinking to replace my 6 row stock low mount center cooler either with a Jagg 10 row (no chrome cover-

) Jagg unit or with the 6-row downtube mounted version that fits even with Fairing Lowers mounted (with the 'door' open.)
Stock one keeps filling up with sh*t and the chrome cover impedes some airflow anyway..
