Harley Bluetooth & Garmin Zumo 550
« on: September 12, 2007, 07:15:35 AM »

Here in Australia, the on board Harley GPS does not work due to there being no software (Yet a multitude of other companies have GPS's in their vehicles).
With an unforseen waiting period ahead I installed a Garmin Zumo 550 on my FLHT and was thinking about installing the Harley Bluetooth on the bike and this way the GPS could be used via the Advanced sound system on the bike.. currently the mobile phone connects to the Garmin and still the Garmin has a spare channel in which I think it could talk to the Bluetooth unit from Harley..

My thought is that I should be able to use any of these combinations.
Phone --> GPS -->  Harley Bluetooth --> Advanced Audio System
GPS --> Harley Bluetooth --> Advanced Audio System
Phone --> Harley Bluetooth --> Advanced Audio System

Has anyone done this to their bikes?
If so let me know some details.. many thanks in advance. I’m a little hesitant to spend the $1000+ for the Bluetooth unit is it won’t do what I want it to.

It won't work, to the best of my knowledge, though someone else may know better.  The HD Bluetooth connects only to phones, or more correctly, only to SOME phones - it's very choosy.  I have it fitted.

J & M Audio has released their bluetooth helmets that will pair nicely with the Zumo. Matter of fact, it was the main unit that they based their testing on. I wear a wireless bluetooth headset and it works just fine for phone and GPS commands on the Zumo. Zumo pairs with most phones including the Razor. The Razor's phone book also shows on the Zumo along with caller ID. In my opinion, thrir isn't a better all around GPS that will also survive torential downpours.
